Materine užance

Materine užance (Mother’s Recipes) the longest-running summer event in Pakoštane, held annually in the heart of the town’s oldest district, Bužak, has been a cherished tradition since 2008. Founded by the DAN Ethno Association, this event allows the visitors to see the exhibition Iz materine škrinje (From Mother’s Trunk) in the ethno house in Bužak and learn about women’s attire, dowries, and housekeeping and house decoration. Also, the outdoor exhibition of old photographs titled “Pakoštane in the 20^th Century”, set up from the church towards the waterfront, gives information about the social, religious, cultural and sports life of Pakoštane. The flavours of ćućka, octopus, Noah’s Arc shells, brudet, salted sardines, prosciutto, homemade cheese, pogača and olive oil, wine, prošek and rakija are waiting in the longest street of Bužak and will provide you with an authentic image of Pakoštane’s tradition and heritage. The flavours of fritule, mimace, sugared almonds and kroštule, prepared according to the old recipes of Pakoštane’s homemakers, will sweeten your stay in the town. Visit and experience the traces of the past that come to life this evening throughout Bužak, a place where women’s enduring legacy is beautifully preserved.
