Women’s bocce tournament

The most important pastime on Vrgada is bocce – a game that is more than just a sport. Known as boće or balote, this traditional Dalmatian game involves skilfully throwing balls over long distances to hit a smaller target, the bulin or bulo. The bocce court, or zog, is an uneven, sand- and grass-covered terrain located within the Baroque summer residence of the Damiani counts, an 18^th-century noble family known as Conti de Vergada.
