14. Kranja Trail

About the trail

For centuries, the hardworking people of Vrgada have stolen every clump of fertile soil from the stone, building a vast network of drystone walls for their vineyards and olive groves. The path through that rocky maze, today overgrown with dense pine forest and moss, leads to the picturesque cove of Kranja on the southeast side of the island.

Once the heart of Vrgada, the grand noble palace Kontov Palac was home to the Damiani family, the island’s 17th-century owners. Though time has worn it down, remnants of its outer walls and the well-preserved Chapel of Our Lady of Health still stand, whispering stories of the past.
