16. Saint Andrew Trail

16. Saint Andrew Trail

About the trail

St. Andrew’s Trail passes by the Podbrizi beach, famous for its red sand and a stubborn pine tree that, defying gravity, overhangs the vertical flysch rampart above the beach. After encircling a small peninsula, the path reaches the old Croatian church of St. Andrew in the cove of the same name. A barely noticeable footpath climbs from the church through the olive groves to the remains of the Byzantine military fort on the Gradina hill, which offers magnificent views to all sides of the island world.

16. Saint Andrew Trail
Nestled in a shallow bay beneath Gradina Hill, the Church of St. Andrew gives this trail its name. According to legend, a wooden statue of St. Andrew emerged from the sea at this very spot, inspiring the people of Vrgada to build a church in his honor and place the statue on its altar.
